We call it the Torq. You might call it the Holy Grail.

Monty Python jokes aside, the Torq is the closest thing you'll find to a perfect laptop backpack. Sure, we're biased. So are the folks who bought it. Just read their reviews -- the Torq's got the capacity, comfort and protection for traveling to the office or the outback.

It's thoughtfully divided into three interior compartments: accessories in the front, laptop in the middle, clothes or books in the back. It's all about access made simple. Unzip the laptop section, pop your computer into the Boot, and you're all set.

For 2009, the exterior now features even better durability with 100% Cordura Velocity nylon and massive #10 YKK zippers. And we've stuffed more padding in the shoulder straps. Two mesh side pockets do double duty for water bottles, cells or PowerBars. Large exterior pocket for snacks, tickets and other stuff. Intuitive internal organization completes the picture.

Bottom line? It's our most popular laptop bag. It'll be yours too.

"The build quality of the Torq and other Spire backpacks is amazing...a great choice for the road warrior. 5/5 stars!"
- ConnectReviews.com, August 2007

"Because of its capacity, you’ll be tempted to over-pack this solidly-built backpack. But resist that temptation and you’ll find the Torq a worthy bag."
- MacWorld.com, June 2007

"Most of you know by now that I'm something of a bag-o-holic. It's probably because I'm so attached to my MacBook Pro and because I take it everywhere but regardless, I really dig bags or all shapes and sizes. One bag I'm currently digging is the Torq backpack from Spire. If you're looking for a backpack to carry your MBP, it's worth looking into." [ Read full article ]
- O'Grady's PowerPage, May 2007

Spire had a substantial booth at January's Macworld Expo in San Francisco. Their newest high-end model, the Torq, recently delivered to our ultra-tech testing facility (Nemo's shoulders and back), is spacious, expensive, and designed for every possible carrying condition.

[faq]If you have a question that isn't listed here, please e-mail us!

Q. Will my laptop fit in the Torq?
A. To answer this question, you need to know the correct Boot size for your laptop (see below).

Q. What is a Boot and why do I need it?
A. The Boot is a padded, removable sleeve that secures your laptop inside the pack. It is essential for full laptop protection and is available in 8 different sizes.

Q. How do I know which Boot size will fit my laptop?
A. Check the specs on the Boot page.

Q. I already have a Boot, or don't need one. Can I purchase the Volt XL without it?
A. Yes, after you click the 'Buy' button, skip the step where it asks for the Boot size. The price of the pack without the Boot is $140.00.

Q. I clicked on the 'Buy' button but nothing happened. What's up?
A. You must select a color first.

Q. Do you have any other colors?
A. No, but we'll be happy to hear about any color suggestions you have!

Q. What is the difference between the Torq and the Meta?
A. The Meta is larger, heavier and has a rigid internal framesheet for extra support. For a detailed comparison, go to our Compare Packs page.

Q. What makes the Torq worth $170.00? I've seen packs for less.
A. Bottom line: ours are better. More comfortable, better designed, and longer lasting. Also, the price includes the padded Boot sleeve, which retails for $30.00 by itself. Read more about what makes Spire products special.
